We have been involved with the Speedwells wide body Supra programme for some time now, and it’s been selling well on a global scale which is fantastic for the brand and the conversion, but what gets us really excited is a home grown build and we have two beauties both coming to the end of the process, this particular post is all about the beautiful Supra that our good friend Sean Reid has put together, and this is one that we have simply fell in love with, the metal up close and personal this car is simply breathtaking.

Sean Reid and his stunning Speedwells wide body Toyota Supra

The car isn’t 100% complete, but for the last few months we have been pushing Sean to get the bodywork finished so at least we could shoot the car, and it just goes to show if you give someone enough ear ache, things get done because the Supra was prepared and finished last week ready for our photoshoot, it still need some interior finishing, along with some tuning parts for the engine side of the conversion, but the body work is absolute perfect.

We have seen pictures of Seans car in the build process, but this is the very first time we have actually got to see the car in the flesh and the colour is just beautiful, one of our favourites so far for the Speedwells conversion, the Porsche slate grey suits this car and the lines to perfection and its great to see a new colour on a speedwells widebody Supra.

The chosen location is in Hall Green Birmingham, which is pretty local to the Speedwells HQ, a location we had been discussing over the past couple of weeks with Iby, as he wants to shoot the Porsche 997R at this very location, so we couldn’t resist talking the Supra there, as you can see from the shoot the location turned out perfect.

Sean has so many beautiful details on this Supra with more on the way, we particularly like the halo front and rear light set up, along with the tinted front lenses, and as we said previously the Porsche slate grey colour is an absolute inspired choice, it suits the lines of the wider supra to perfection, its definitely one of our personal favourites and althugh its not the first time this colour has been used on a Supra build but it’s a first for this conversion.

We maybe a little bias but the wheel choice is also on point, it’s our own brand that adorns this build, you just cannot go wrong with a mesh style design, our Forged VM1 maybe some 7 years old now, but its still a beauty and Sean had made his mind up after seeing our old 997 RSR build back in 2013 that this was the wheel he just had to have, with 10.5x19 > 275/30R19 on the front and 13x19>315/30r19 on the rear, which fill the fenders to the maximum, finish in gloss black and matt black contrast to the centre and the inner and outer rims, finished off with polished hardware.

This is one supra we will revisit after the interior and engine upgrades have been completed, as this is one car that deserves all the attention its going to get, for now we are just going to drool over the pictures of this beauty.

Speedwells Wide Body Supra

Speedwells Wide Body Totota Supra, in Porsche Slate Grey

So what is next for the Speedwells wide body … well we have white one that’s almost due for release from our friend up North, from the streets of Newcastle, yep we have yet another home grown UK build about to join the Speedwells family, more to follow on that build as we get updated.

This week has seen us take delivery of a set of our Forged VAD VM1 wheels for our good friend Sean, that will be fitted to his amazing Speedwells Wide Body Toyota Supra, and we are happy that he was so persistent with this design, its getting on a bit and we did try and influence our all new Version 2 of the wheel, but he stuck to his guns and was relentless in his pursuit of our original design.

This particular wheel design is now the best part of seven years old, but it still looks fresh in today’s market, it’s a design that looks good on any vehicle, you just cant go wrong with a mesh style design, its no wonder that BBS stick to their tried and tested design.

13x19 2-Piece VAD Forged VM1, Matte Black Centre, Gloss Black Rim

The VM1 comes in various configurations and what we have added to our line up over the last few years is 2 piece version, which is lighter and less prone to leaks than its 3 piece brother, as well as being a slightly cheaper option, available in all of the concave profiles, we prefer the look of the spokes having the extended legs, rather than when the spokes sit on top of the flange of the wheel, but this concave configuration of the extended legs is a heavier set up so its personal choice depending on the look you want and the intended application.

We offer this design in 18” 19” 20” 21” & 22” with a 24” option available on request, available now in 1, 2 or 3-piece construction with a super lightweight forged magnesium 2-piece option now available in 18” 19” & 20” sizes, for road or track use.

We look forward to seeing these wheels enhance Sean's Supra, check back in to follow the journey of this epic build.

Over the past couple of years, we have seen the speedwells wide body aero kit for the Toyota Supra gather some momentum, since we have added the aero to our website we have had lots of interest, it helps when current owners like Lawrence Duckers are out and about with his amazing Black Wide Body, which seems to look better every time we see the car across various media platforms, Iby certainly built a stunner when he put this one together and it’s good to see that Lawrence is putting his own stamp on the build, adding more power with a turbo install, and we are sure there is more to come from this particular Supra.

There is a new build happening and we have been privy too and it’s a beauty, Sean Reid is the man responsible for yet another UK build and from what we have seen so far we are excited by this one.

Sean's Black Supra before the mods

The base car he sourced was from Ireland, a beautiful black example which before he purchased had just had a fresh coat of paint and it was a stunning example, many people would be asking why cut up a perfectly good base car, but when your friend is Iby from Speedwells it all starts to make sense, let’s just say when it comes to modifying cars he is a bad influence, and Sean himself is no stranger to the modified scene, his daily driver is a lowered Murdered out Audi Avant, sitting on super wide concave wheels , so the Supra didn't stand a chance of a standard life once it come into Sean’s life, but as we always say at VAD, a stock car is a boring car.

The reason this build caught our eye was colour choice, which is a classic Grey from the Porsche colour range, its very reminiscent to the Lamborghini Grigio Telesto or the Audi Nardo Grey, which we like, especially now this colour is adorned on his wide body Supra, this is one colour that will show off all of the details that can be hidden by a darker colour.

Sean's Build process of the Speedwells Wide Body Supra

A special build needs a special wheel and as reported in our previous email Sean has decided on our very own VAD VM1 mesh style design, its and old design now, but like all good mesh designs get them right and they are timeless, and this is one build we can wait to see fitted with our design.

Sean is a man after our own heart when it comes to colour for his wheel set up, as he is going with a matte black centre with gloss black barrels, chrome studs, in sizes 10.5x19 front and 13x19 rear, this is one beauty we just can’t wait to see all finished down the camera lens.
