Well it certainly didn't take Iby long to get stuck into the Porsche 997 build, no sooner was the Turbo Purchased, it was back to Speedwells base and precision dismantled, being relieved of all the o.e.m panels to include the Techart front and rear bumpers, custom splitters, diffusers, wheels and tyres, (all which are now for sale) the front fenders, to see what modifications need to be done to get this aero pack fitted, as this kit is intended for a none Turbo model, so there will be lots of modifications that will be need to make this kit look at it should do, just from what we have so far, this makes his wide body Supra look like it was on a diet, and that one one hugely wide car, so you can only imagine how wide this is going to be, its insanely wide.

With all the oem and after-market parts removed a complete mock-up of all the carbon parts is being done before some of the parts head off for prep and paint, once this has been done the removal of the original rear quarter panels will be the next task in-hand, and the relocation of the petrol cap and filler, along with other parts that will need to find a new home or location.

We have been longing to see our R wide body aero programme fitted to a road going 997, and finally Speedwells stepped up to the plate and made it happen, check back in on the build as it happens, as this is looking to be one amazing build.

We are disappointed to say that we will not at the SEMA 2017 show this year, we were supposed to be there this year but we have just been too busy to even consider flying off on a business, pleasure trip, it’s been a case of head down arse up for most of the year, and with the plans we have in place for 2018 we have a lot to look forward too, so as they say there is always next year.

Although we are not there on a personal level, some of our product will be, unfortunately we missed the boat with Bryce and his mind blowing GTR, as that is still in early build stages, but we luckily we had another project that we had going on throughout 2017.

Porsche 997 Turbo-R

Porsche 997R loaded up and ready for SEMA 2017

It was the back end of 2016 when we were approached by the Sleepers Speed Shop crew through our good friend Manu Gill from Aristo forged wheels, their client wanted our recently launched GT3R aero upgrade for his Porsche 997 Turbo, and as the order was for most of the parts we do for the R conversion, including the complete flat bottom floor this customer wasn't messing around, and it wasn't until we did some investigation homework we found out the customer already had a pretty radical 997 in the form of the Liberty Walk 997 wide body.

There are a couple of the LB conversions that we do like, the mini is pretty funky and the McLaren is a great looking car, but the 997 for us like the GTR is just wrong, sorry but they are both a bit of a mess, but I guess its each to their own, were not keen on the over fender look and it just doesn't work on every car, so the task for the Sleepers crew was to remove the LB Works kit and install our GT3R, and boy oh boy they didn't disappoint, to say they pulled it off is an understatement, the car looks incredible, we could be any happier with this finished beauty.

There are plenty of people that have signed up for our blog post stateside, so if you’re heading to the SEMA show and you want to get up close and personal with this amazing 997R, head over to the Toyo Tires Treadpass area and you will see it in all its glory.

We would like to thank Len Higa and his Sleepers team for working with us and producing the goods, we look forward to working with these guys again in the near future, they are a class act, and very much a part of the VAD family.

The Porsche 997 is our favorite of all the Porsche chassis, we have a great fondness for the earlier 964 & 993 models, but we have a super soft spot for the 997 especially in the 997.2 guise. Available in various engine and body configurations, we love them all, the Turbo, GT2 or the GT3 are no doubt the cream of the crop but our personal choice would be the C4S with the 3.8 engine, it a beauty, naturally aspirated, and with 355 BHP is no slouch with plenty of go to match those good looks, with so many possibilities to enhance the output, with a Super charger being our favorite choice for engine upgrade, the bolt on VF charger looks OEM and you get to add just over 100 BHP, how does 510 BHP with 380 ft-lbs of torque, and that epic charger noise.

We have always said its difficult to improve on perfection, and as the 997 has those devilish good looks, is it even possible, well yes it can be with the stunning R wide body programme, and its bloody stunning from any angle, any viewing point it just sets the juices flowing, its breathtaking to look at, especially that rear end.

The aero kit is quite an extensive package and if your looking to build the ultimate track beast like our friends Scribante racing built, then you you need pretty much every part available, but if not then you only need the very basic aero kit for road application, email the team for details on this stunning conversion for the 997 chassis, as well as wheels, tyres, suspension, with fitting and painting also available on request.
