We have been wanting to put this post together for a while, we have written then re-written so many times, it’s been frustrating one for us as a company as we speak from experience when it comes to handing over lots of cash on a dream car build, only to find out what you have paid for is complete and utter garbage and you have to start again spending more to rectify the bad workmanship and crud work, so let’s get into it.

There are V8 conversions carried out every day in the UK by quite a few so call “Specialist” a couple are the “self-confessed” best in the business, when in reality there are only a handful of companies that you could trust in the UK , but only one that we would hand over our hard earned cash to, our choice being LSX performance in Market Drayton, we personally wouldn’t go anywhere else, simply put you get what you pay for and these guys know their craft, everything is done in-house from the engine builds, V8 installs, electrics and full exhaust systems, the skill set is next level and these are the skills that you have to pay especially when you consider the prices these builds cost and what is being charged for appalling work elsewhere, if its cheap there are usually reasons why.

On our visits to our conversion partners LSX Performance over the last few months we have seen first-hand all of the work they are having to correct from other business from around the UK, companies that are charging big money for this work, we have seen terrible wiring, exhaust botch up badly designed gearbox and engine mounts, they have one very well-known LS Powered Mazda RX7 in that has had an engine bay fire and just looking at the wiring we can see why.

Electrics, wiring and ECU all terribly converted by a well known V8 installer, that resulted in a fire

"This is terrible work" Mild steel mixed with stainless, different manufacturers back boxes for the exhaust, different headers, terrible welding, all this from a well known UK V8 engine installer and professional builder ... allegedly

Kyle and Ashley from LSX Performance are just finishing up their 680hp V8 LS7 Powered Porsche 997 C4S GT3R kitted beauty and its an absolute work of art and this is what we mean by levels, all built in-house, from GT3R kit installation to V8 engine installation, bespoke exhaust, custom adjustable arms, all wiring and ECU installed, it’s such a tidy install to OEM quality standards and this is what sets them apart from anyone else we have worked with and we are happy to call these guys our conversion partners.

It’s worth doing your due diligence before you hand your hard earned cash, installing a V8 is not cheap and if its screams cheap it means someone’s cutting corners, look at previous work and talk to the people in the know, quality is everything but safety is paramount.

We blogged about this build when it was first launched and apart from the RSR there are very few aero kits around for the Porsche 996 Carrera 2 chassis, Dom the owner of Miles Works Automotive decided he would change that and what a breath of fresh air its turned out to be, the Purists wouldn’t agree but Dom really doesn’t care and neither do we, as this is a build like no other and at over 7 feet wide at the business end this is a serious looking wide body 996 Porsche.

Over the months we have seen the changes being added month after month as the options for this kit expand, so what is new and what is included in the package, what we can say is we adore the optional extra GT race rear wing, it’s a fantastic £2000 addition and one we personally think that this conversion not on needs, it demands it.

The main body has stayed true to form, the chiselled purposeful front bumper is now finished off with the front splitter and soon to be added front race canards, which will finish off the front end, the front flares really do house some impressive width too in the form of 10x19 with a negative -08, clothed with 275/30R19 front tyres amazed they manage to contain the super aggressive offset, we love flow of the side skirt and the way they tie the wide front flares into the super aggressive even wider rear flares, yet it all looks so OEM race car, with the rear flares housing a 14x19 width wheel with a crazy negative -70 offset, they are smothered with 345/30R19, we thought our 997 R13 was wide but it has nothing on this 996 and the best bit is its all tastefully done, its super wide but nothing looks out of place, it just works and looks like the Porsche factory have built it to go racing at Lemans.

So now this stunning design is complete, Dom has been adding to the optional extras list and he now has 3 various rear wing assemblies, our personal favourite is the 993 GT2 evo inspired style set up with the super high blade that screams race car, just seems to suit the portions of the car really well and would be our choice when choosing from the options list.

Over the last few days we have been in conversation with Jon Olsson, chatting about various cars and builds and to say he is infectious is an understatement, he has got us looking into our next build more vigorously, and now we are looking at every detail of the build, in microscopic detail, what have you done to us Jon.

Our 991R project is still in the early stages, but it’s this stage we love, putting all the details together of the build, who we will work with on various components, who we will collaborate with, we already know lots of people that will assist us with the direction we wish to go on this one, as we have made plenty of mistakes in the past, we will not make those mistakes on this build.

We will be working with JRZ on the suspension side with this build, we should have worked with them on the 997 Turbo –R & BMW Z4 GT3 V8, but Bilstein were really good to us on those builds so it was a bit of a no brainer, and they are such an awesome company to work with, and they are local which was an added bonus, but with the 991R we will are really looking forward to working with the Porsche suspension gurus JRZ, when it comes to handling perfection these boys are the best.

The body work will be our usual raw carbon fibre; the colour is yet to be decided but yellow is a very strong contender at the moment, but knowing us that could change. Exhaust will be built by our good friend Craig at Dynotorque, wheels we have chosen will be super lightweight magnesium forged 3 piece from our partners GT3RR, design will be the F1M in sizes and widths 12X20F & 14x20R, wrapped in Michelin 295/35R20 & 345/30R20 front & rear respectively.

Staying on the subject of wheels, we managed to get a sneak peek on Jon Olsson’s Audi 1000 BHP RS6 before it’s official launch a few days back we were drawn to the wheel choice Jon made for this RS6 build and it looks radical, like nothing else on the market and we love that, Jon has always had a great eye for a wheel and this choice has inspired us, Brixton Forged did one hell of a job on the design and manufacture and although we have our own wheel design locked in, we also want to run with a different look from time to time which has made us revisit D-LNG, the Turbofan maestros.

We reached out to Steve the owner of D-LNG a couple of years back when our BMW Z4 GT3 V8 was in its early stages, but we had a change of direction on the build and felt they wouldn’t be the right look for the Z4 GT3 styling, but for the Porsche it’s the perfect look and as racing history has shown the Porsche brand wears them well, and with Steve now working on his all new Gen concave 3D printed designs, this build just has to have them, more updates will follow when the build starts, 2020 just seems to getting better month by month.
